Invitation:
-I had made "a map with secret message" for each explorer invited to the party.
-I created the invitation on microsoft word using some fun themed wording, and ancient map clip art. I was also able to download a heiroglyphics font online and included a "secret message" on the bottom of the invitation. I printed the invites on cream-colored paper and aged them by squishing (yes... that is a technical term) them into balls and opening them back up (I repeated this about 15 times for each invite to make it very wrinkled). Then I burned the edge of each invite. I attached a decoder for the secret message on a separate slip of paper and attached it to the invite with a piece of thin twine. I rolled each invite and tied it with twine with a tag with the name of the explorer being invited.
Decor:
-lots of ecclectic items ("artifacts") from around the world, plastic bugs and snakes, spider webs, torches, fake camp fire, nets, ropes, canvas drop cloths.
Arrival: Kids found expedition bags with their names written in heiroglyphics on the bag. They had to use a decoder (the same one used for the invitations) to find their bag.
Games:
-Mummy Wrap:partners take turns wrapping each other with toilet paper in 2 minutes...then race to clean it up!
-Feel the Key: I filled a large bowl with spaghetti noodles, grapes, and a jello brain. Then I added a few real keys and mixed them in. I covered the bowl with one of my hubby's long-sleeved t-shirts, leaving just one arm hole out. The kids only saw the covered bowl (not what was inside) and took turns reaching into the armhole to feel around to try to find a key. Each child only had a minute for their search....the "ewwwwws" and "oh, grosssssss" comments were fabulous!!!
-The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt....It kicked off when a letter "arrived" in a manilla envelope from Indiana Jones telling the explorers that he had a special adventure for them. The hunt took the kids 1.5 hours to complete and had 10 stops.

Snacks: Trail Mix, Granola Bars, Jello Jigglers (a.k.a. "monkey brains")
Cake: Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting from Costco...I printed a picture of my son as a lego Indiana Jones on my computer on card stock, cut out his images and stood it up on the cake. Then I added a large spider and some marbles....It looked like he was trying to battle the "beast" on his cake.
Party Favors: Kids got items at each stop on the Scavenger Hunt that they put in their expedition bags
Feel free to use any of the ideas mentioned above....and take credit for them yourself! You are SUPER MOM!!!
